THE N.E.W. LIFE CENTER IS A FAITH-BASED ENVIRONMENT PROVIDING LIFE SKILLS, EDUCATION AND WORKPLACE TRAINING, EMPOWERING WOMEN AND MEN TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT. We provide a safe environment for survivors of abuse and poverty. We give these individuals the access to learn and further their education with the help of our tutoring volunteers, along with teaching basic life skills to those who need it, encouraging them along the way and building their self-esteem, so that one day they become independent.
Center for Hope
In a city that helped build America, hope is often in short supply. Jobs are scarce – violence, illiteracy, and crime are prevalent. Young people are being raised in an environment of poverty and despair. Anxiety, joblessness and poverty – all contributors to depression and domestic violence – are destroying families. Clearly, help is needed. For many, the Center for Hope is the beginning of a new path to recovery, offering access to counseling and mental health services, substance use treatment and recovery, housing assistance and referrals for food and furniture. The Center for Hope offers just that - hope for each new day that comes.
October 2022 update:
The shelves are looking pretty empty in the Center for Hope personal needs room. We are in need of dish soap, laundry soap, deodorant, and shampoo. And we always need toddler-sized clothes.
To give you an idea of why the shelves look like this, here are some numbers:
In January we served 469 individuals and 227 families. This past August those numbers were 1,487 individuals and 589 families. Working people are struggling! For online donations, please visit: https://catholiccharitiesflint.org/center-for-hope Or send a check to: Center for Hope 812 Root St. Flint, MI 48503 Also looking for volunteers to help sort and hang donations in the morning, Monday through Friday, from 9am to 12noon. Small groups are welcome. If you are able to help, please contact: Mary Stevenson Catholic Charities of Shiawassee & Genesee Counties Center for Hope (810) 265-7025, ext. 712
